If you are looking for the perfect spot to do your engagement session in the Hudson Valley, then we need to talk about Vanderbilt Historic Mansion in Hyde Park. It is one of my favorite places to suggest, and always at the top of my list. From the gorgeous bridge you cross on the way into the property, to the Italian Gardens, and the mansion itself, there are endless photo opportunities. The icing on the cake is the view you get of The Hudson River and The Catskill Mountains.
When Allana and Kyle choose this location from the list of suggestions I had sent, I was ecstatic. The last time I had been was the end of December and I was so excited to see the place in all of its glory.
What we didn’t expect was to arrive to gates closed and locked at the park. Both Allana and Kyle and myself drove a considerable distance to Vanderbilt Historic Mansion and we had arrived for a sunset engagement shoot. After discussing options for a few minutes, and the threat of rain turning into a real possibility, we all decided to park on a quiet side street and head in through a small side entrance we had spotted.
In the end, even with all the excess sweat, the extra walking we did was worth it. We had Vanderbilt Manison mostly to ourselves for the engagement shoot. Allana and Kyle were incredibly fun and the best way to kick of my July. I cannot wait to capture their wedding this September as I know it’s going to be an absolute blast!
