A Mohonk Mountain House Engagement

My 2020 season started with a January engagement session at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. This victorian castle is nestled on the Shawangunk Ridge on lake mohonk.

Rachael contacted me in early January wanting to set up an engagement session for her and her fiance, Jose. They have been doing a long distance relationship for the last five years, with her being in Florida and Jose in the outskirts of Manhattan. Rachael really wanted to have different scenery for their session, since they will be having their wedding in Florida next year. She asked for upstate New York suggestions and I was happy to oblige. I had been wanting to shoot at Mohonk Mountain House for so long and I was so excited when they choose it.

The day of their Mohonk Mountain House engagement session arrived and it was the coldest day of winter. I believe the high was 11 degrees. We parked in the lower lot and started our journey up the mountain. The one and a half mile hike felt longer in the cold. Rachael and Jose were such troopers, taking off their coats for each camera snap. I tried to keep them as warm as possible by prompting them into cuddly poses. I would shoot them in 30 seconds intervals, by having them quick off jackets, get into position and then get the coats back on.

Rachael and Jose totally nailed this session. The views of Mohonk Mountain house made the bitter weather worth every freezing second!
