A Timeless Houston Hall Wedding in the Heart of NYC
Walking into Houston Hall on Adrianna and Jack’s wedding day felt like stepping into a different era of New York City. The industrial space glowed with candlelight and ambient lighting, which instantly softened the room. Lush florals and historic murals added warmth and nostalgia, so the venue felt less like a beer hall and more like an intimate wedding space. At the same time, vendors moved quickly and quietly as they transformed the room for the evening ahead.

Outside, the West Village buzzed with early-June energy. The weather felt perfect, with warm sunshine and just enough breeze. People filled the sidewalks, cafés spilled onto the streets, and the city felt alive. We stepped out for portraits and walked just one block around Houston Hall. Along the way, NYPD even stopped traffic so we could capture a crosswalk moment with the city stretching out behind them.
One detail stood out the moment I walked inside. The bar featured Bethlehem Steel lettering, which immediately caught my eye. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has always felt like home to me. Seeing a piece of it inside a historic New York City wedding venue felt unexpectedly meaningful and deeply personal.
Why Houston Hall Is One of NYC’s Most Romantic Wedding Venues
Houston Hall sits in the heart of the West Village, one of the most charming neighborhoods in New York City. Originally built as an FBI garage in the early 1900s, the space now blends historic character with modern design. As a result, it feels both grand and welcoming.

Unlike many traditional wedding venues, Houston Hall offers a large open layout that works beautifully for both big celebrations and more intimate gatherings. High ceilings, exposed brick, and layered lighting give the space a moody and editorial feel. At the same time, the warmth of the room keeps everything from feeling cold or industrial.
I love photographing weddings in character-filled New York City spaces like Houston Hall, where architecture, history, and atmosphere all become part of the story. If you’re drawn to venues with dramatic light, textured walls, and a timeless editorial feel, you might also love this Foundry wedding in Long Island City.
Couples who choose Houston Hall often want a true New York City wedding. They usually look for a space with personality and history rather than a ballroom. For this reason, the venue attracts couples with a creative vision who want their day to feel elevated, timeless, and distinctly NYC.
Adrianna & Jack’s Vision for Their Wedding Day
From the very beginning, Adrianna and Jack knew what mattered most to them. They wanted their wedding to center on love, fun, and connection. With 175 guests, the day carried the energy of a big celebration. However, it still felt intimate and emotional.

They leaned into a “secret garden in the city” aesthetic, which brought wildflowers, candlelight, and rustic details into the historic space. As a result, Houston Hall felt warm and romantic rather than industrial. Even with a full room, the atmosphere stayed relaxed and personal.
Most importantly, Adrianna and Jack wanted to be present with their people. They cared less about tradition and more about time together. Because of that, they designed their day to flow naturally, which allowed them to enjoy every moment.
First Look & Portraits Around Houston Hall
Adrianna and Jack chose to skip traditional getting-ready coverage. Instead, they focused on what mattered most to them: time together and time with their guests. We met for their first look inside Houston Hall, where the dramatic architecture and moody light created a cinematic setting.

After that, we stepped outside into the West Village for portraits. We walked around the block and soaked in the energy of the neighborhood. Along the way, we even dipped into the subway for a few iconic New York City moments. Then we found a small green space at the end of the street, where the light fell beautifully across them.
One of my favorite spots for family portraits was right in front of Houston Hall’s large arched black doors. The venue’s bold character framed their loved ones perfectly and tied the portraits back to the space itself.
The Ceremony
Adrianna and Jack’s ceremony took place inside Houston Hall, where the entire space was transformed into something warm and romantic. Although the venue is known for its industrial character, it felt soft and inviting that evening. Bistro string lights were draped across the ceiling and glowed gently above the guests. At the same time, rattan pendant lights added layers of texture and warmth over the ceremony space.

Lush florals softened the exposed brick walls, which helped create that “secret garden in the city” feeling they loved. In addition, the seating design made the ceremony feel deeply personal. Guests were seated as well as standing close on both sides, which brought everyone into the moment.
Live musicians from Juilliard filled the room with music as Adrianna and Jack exchanged their vows. Their words were emotional and heartfelt, yet also full of humor. As a result, there were plenty of tears followed by laughter. It was one of those ceremonies where you could truly feel how much love surrounded them.
Because the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all took place in the same room, the energy never dropped. The space was flipped quickly while guests mingled, so the mood stayed warm and connected throughout the night.
The Reception and Energy of the Night
Once the celebration officially began, Houston Hall came alive. The dance floor filled almost immediately, and as a result, the energy never dipped. Emotional speeches brought both tears and laughter, which set the tone for the evening. Then the music kicked in and kept everyone moving well into the night.

One of the most unforgettable moments happened when the Cannoli Guy rolled onto the dance floor. He filled fresh cannolis to order and let guests choose their own toppings. This surprise felt especially on brand for Adrianna and Jack. It was joyful, playful, and completely unexpected.
In addition, there was a coffee, gelato, and dessert station, which made the evening feel indulgent and fun. Between heartfelt parent dances, packed dance floor moments, and the glow of candlelight, the reception struck the perfect balance. It felt both elegant and wildly celebratory.
Why Houston Hall Is Perfect for Editorial Wedding Photography
Houston Hall is one of those rare New York City wedding venues that truly allows photography to shine. The personality of the space makes it easy to capture moments in a creative and cinematic way. From the exposed brick walls to the historic murals, every corner offers visual depth.
In particular, the lighting plays a huge role. Candlelight, bistro lights, and pendant lamps all work together to create a moody, romantic atmosphere. As a result, images feel timeless rather than trendy. Light sets the emotional tone of photographs, and Houston Hall’s warm glow enhances every moment.
For couples who want their wedding photos to feel like a story instead of a checklist, this venue is a perfect fit. It allows moments to unfold naturally while still providing a beautiful editorial backdrop. For this reason, it is one of my favorite spaces to photograph in New York City.
And yes, I would shoot here again in a heartbeat.
If you’re planning a Houston Hall or New York City wedding and want photography that feels timeless, candid, and cinematic, I’d love to hear from you.
