One of my favorites from last year was Marci & Larry’s Hudson Valley wedding at Rustic Ridge View Farms. Rustic Ridge is family owned horse farm and wedding venue in the Hudson Valley, about 1.5 hours from NYC. They got married in the middle of September. Their venue sits on 150 acres just west of New Paltz, New York and The Gunks. The ceremony site is up on the hill with amazing panoramic views of the ridge.
I felt a special connection with Marci from our first phone call. She had contacted me about a month before their wedding desperate to find a new wedding photographer for her day. My heart broke hearing the photographer that she had booked back in January had underwhelmed them and made them feel not great during their engagement session. (seriously do all the research before booking your wedding photographer!) After they expressed their nervousness to that person, which had gone un answered for weeks, they decided they needed to look elsewhere.
Enter, Par La Mer Photography. I did a pre wedding shoot with Larry and Marci, to help ease their nervousness, and then did their timeline and family portrait planning, all within 3 weeks time.
The day of their wedding was the rainiest day of the month. Marci was determined to not let the rain ruin her dreams of getting married on that hilltop. We kept checking the radar for the patches of rain and just really worked with what Mother Nature gave us. We took photos during rain breaks and kept our fingers crossed that it would break for the ceremony. The ceremony had to be moved inside due to the torrential rain, but it was put together quickly and beautifully thanks to Marci and Larry’s awesome planner!
